Port of Gdynia doubles fuel terminal capacity

Port of Gdynia doubles fuel terminal capacity Natalia Kuna

The Port of Gdynia Authority has signed a contract with Budimex to expand its Liquid Fuels Handling Stand (SPPP), launching one of the most significant fuel-infrastructure projects in Poland’s seaports. The investment will allow the port to handle LR2-class tankers of up to 170,000 DWT, double the terminal’s annual throughput from 3.2 million to 6 million tonnes and strengthen national energy security.

The PLN 174 million project will be delivered in a design-and-build formula. Budimex will prepare full project documentation, secure the building permit and carry out construction works, all while the existing loading stand remains operational. Completion is planned for the third quarter of 2028.

The expansion includes a new loading platform, additional mooring and fendering dolphins, dredging to 17 metres and a new pumping station, integrated with the current infrastructure. Construction will be carried out entirely from the water. The project is coordinated with PERN’s ongoing expansion of the Dębogórze Fuel Base, creating a unified and more resilient national fuel logistics system. The Port of Gdynia is simultaneously pursuing other key investments, including a new CEF-funded intermodal terminal, the development of onshore power supply infrastructure and broad energy-efficiency upgrades.
