Frigo Logistics, Poland’s leading logistics operator for temperature-controlled products, has launched a new photovoltaic (PV) farm with a capacity of 657 kWp at its warehouse and cold storage complex in Żnin. This marks an important step toward improving the energy efficiency of one of the company’s key distribution centers.
The project involved the installation of 1,044 JINKO photovoltaic panels manufactured using N-type technology, each with a declared capacity of 630 Wp. The PV farm was built on a 1-hectare site adjacent to the warehouse-cold storage facility in Żnin. The general contractor and technology provider for the project was All-Ant, a company that previously partnered with Frigo on earlier PV installations.
The new photovoltaic farm operates in an on-grid mode but is based on a self-consumption model. All generated energy is used in real time to meet the complex’s needs, with no surplus fed back into the grid. This allows Frigo Logistics to optimize daytime energy consumption, using the electricity, among other purposes, for cold accumulation, thereby reducing the load on the refrigeration system during evening hours. The company estimates that the investment will pay for itself within a maximum of five years. To date, Frigo Logistics has invested over PLN 10 million in green energy projects, while the cost of the current project in Żnin amounted to nearly PLN 2 million.
We want to fully leverage our capacity for on-site energy production and consistently improve energy efficiency. The construction of the new PV farm in Żnin represents a significant step in implementing this strategy. Following the completion of the works, the total installed capacity at the complex reaches 1.3 MWp, enabling us to cover approximately 30% of its electricity demand - says Marcin Cichoński, Technical Director at Frigo Logistics.
The construction of the PV farm is another stage in the development of the Żnin complex. In 2024, Frigo Logistics officially completed the modernization and expansion of the warehouse-cold storage facility, which included an increase in warehouse and office space, as well as the implementation of new technologies and operational solutions.
