DPD Polska’s operational network has expanded with a state-of-the-art branch located in Bydgoszcz. The new facility, situated at 2 Petersona Street, has officially commenced operations, taking over the functions of the previous Bydgoszcz branch. This investment enhances parcel processing efficiency in the region and further improves the quality of service for both individual and business customers.
Covering an area of 40,000 m², the site features a 7,000 m² hall equipped with a modern automatic sorter from BEUMER Group, capable of processing over 5,500 parcels per hour. Engineers prioritized both workplace ergonomics and machine performance. Thanks to an advanced label-scanning system and dynamic sorting control, the device enables faster and more precise operations.
Investing in infrastructure and technologies that automate parcel sorting processes is extremely important to us. It boosts the efficiency of our entire network, meaning we can reliably process even more parcels – including for the e-commerce sector. This is yet another DPD Polska facility where we’ve implemented a high-performance automatic sorter, and we’ll continue to direct our investments in this area to effectively meet market expectations - announces Maciej Głowacki, Chief Operating Officer and Management Board Member at DPD Polska.
Smart Logistics Designed for the Future
When designing the new branch, the focus was on innovative solutions that not only increase efficiency but also improve working conditions. The sorter layout was optimized to meet evolving operational needs. Courier drop points were narrowed, new parcel-guiding devices were introduced, and workstation distances were adjusted to enhance communication space.
Thanks to the new automatic sorter, parcels can be processed across a wide size range – from a minimum of 15x20 cm and 1 cm in height, to shipments as large as 80x80x150 cm. Additionally, beneath the mezzanine housing the automatic sorter, there is a manual sorter from AMSORT for processing oversized parcels, with a capacity of approximately 3,000 parcels per hour. This opens the door to serving an even broader range of both individual and business clients.
From the outset, our design of the new branch was guided not only by operational efficiency but also by workplace comfort and ergonomics for our employees, as well as the ability to adapt to the dynamic expectations of our customers. The optimized sorter layout, new courier drop points, and improvements in the hall’s traffic flow allow us to handle parcels of very diverse sizes more quickly and efficiently - notes Lidia Gesse, Branch Manager at DPD Bydgoszcz.
The Bydgoszcz branch is a combination of cutting-edge technologies and a well-thought-out infrastructure design, making us ready for market growth, an increasing number of individual customers, and higher volumes from business partners – locally, regionally, and nationwide. Our goal was to create a branch of the future – flexible, efficient, employee-friendly, and responsive to market needs. And that’s exactly what we’ve achieved, for which I’d like to thank the entire DPD team involved in this project - concludes Magdalena Chojnacka, Regional Director at DPD Polska.
Benefits for Residents and Local Businesses
The new branch not only improves logistics processes but also brings tangible benefits to the local community. The facility’s opening creates new jobs in the region – from logistics specialists and warehouse workers to couriers. Ultimately, as operations grow, the new branch will be supported by around 160 employees and up to 230 couriers.
Moreover, the new investment means better access to courier services. Residents of Bydgoszcz and surrounding areas can expect faster deliveries and more flexible service options. Access to modern, high-efficiency logistics infrastructure also gives local entrepreneurs the opportunity to expand nationally and internationally.
Towards Sustainable Development
The Bydgoszcz investment also reflects the core values guiding DPD Polska’s strategy. Sustainability, innovation, and environmental care are the pillars of the company’s operations. The facility has received BREEAM Excellent certification, confirming its high standards in sustainable development. What’s more, the new branch is equipped with 10 electric vehicle charging stations, with space prepared for 10 more. A 50 kWp photovoltaic installation was mounted on the roof, and solar collectors support domestic water heating.
