First freight train from Warsaw departs for China

For the first time, a train loaded with goods bound for China has departed from the Warsaw terminal owned by PKP CARGO CONNECT, a company of PKP CARGO Group S.A. (currently under restructuring). The train, operating along the New Silk Road, carries products originating from across Europe, including Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Latvia. The connection opens new opportunities for Poland’s economic growth and strengthens the position of PKP CARGO Group in international logistics chains.

Today’s event demonstrates the enormous potential of international cooperation. Joint infrastructure projects, such as this one between PKP CARGO CONNECT and Chinese partners, have a tangible impact on the economy, attract investors, and enhance Poland’s position on the global trade map - said Adam Struzik, Marshal of the Mazovia region.

Containers can be used to transport a wide range of goods. On this route, shipments will include, among others, custom-made furniture, ski accessories, footwear, and playground equipment. The list of goods remains open – any product that fits into a container and complies with sanction regulations can be transported from Poland to China in this form. This is the first pilot train, enabling PKP CARGO CONNECT to blaze a trail in this direction. Two additional shipments are planned in the coming weeks. If the initiative proves successful and demand continues, further services along this route are planned.

This is a very special day for us, as 10 years ago we started cooperation with the ZIH Group, jointly organizing container transport from China to Poland. In 2016, we welcomed the first freight train at this very location. Today, after so many years, we are shaping the future of cooperation between our organizations by sending European goods – including Polish-made products – to China. I believe this marks another stage in the fruitful development of our joint business projects - said Piotr Sadza, CEO of PKP CARGO CONNECT.

The ceremony was also attended by Ms. Agnieszka Wasilewska-Semail, CEO of PKP CARGO S.A. (under restructuring).
