COMMERCIAL SHIPPING MONITORING SYSTEMS AND MARITIME TRANSPORT APLICATIONS
Abstract
Due to the advancement of the information technology (IT), the process of digital information exchange in logistics systems has lately become much faster. Maritime transport, due to its characteristics, global reach and an important role it plays in economical processes, is now an area of implementation of the newest and most advanced solutions in the field of IT. Some of the solutions are: systems of shipping monitoring based on AIS signal transmission, used in national systems of shipping safety; commercial applications dedicated to subjects in the field of marine economy; as well as applications supporting the operational part of the logistics procedures. This paper is an attempt at providing a complex grasp of the issues regarding the usage of maritime monitoring systems as well as an attempt at stocktaking, as it were, of IT systems used in land-marine logistics chains of supply. In this paper the main attention will be paid on presentation of commercial applications based on the available signal AIS, addressed to maritime subjects, including logistics providers to improve the management on integrated level and application supported processes in the land and sea logistics chains.
